New Options in Going Solar
Simplify, Or, Why The Tiny House Movement is Gaining Momentum
I've been pondering “stuff” lately. Why we have it, why we want it, why we need some of it. How to get rid of it. It seems we all have great big piles of stuff with a roof (or two, or three...) on it.
The American Dream. Owning a house with a white picket fence. In the right neighborhood. Two car garage.
Everyone says that is what you are to aspire to.
Everyone could be wrong.
One size fits all is never for everyone. So why should owning a home be? McMansions, we were told, were where it was at. But now with employment down, and the economy stagnating, new paradigms are coming to the fore. By choice or by chance, many people are considering downsizing. Both the space that they live in and the things that go in that space. Let's face it, how many things do you have in your drawers and closets and attic and basement and garage that you've only used once. You use once a year Or haven't used yet. Add up the cost of all of those things, and you can see that you could easily rent those items, and now you've freed up all that space that was just used for storage of things you never use.
The tiny house movement's time has come.
A wave of outside-the-box thinking is sweeping the planet. People all over are questioning every aspect of society. From work models, to living models, to societal models, old ideas are being shifted aside to make way for the new.
Add to that the environmental concerns, of a huge house that doesn't even add to your lifestyle. If you bought that huge house for entertaining, but yet you can't afford to entertain because you're too busy paying for the mortgage the insurance and the upkeep, What sort of trade-off is that.
You can own your own home, with little to no mortgage. It could even be mobile. Travel could become a way of life, instead of waiting for one two-week a year vacation and retirement. Imagine traveling around the country, seeing all of those fun places Instead of dreaming about it. The trend towards telecommuting can make this extremely possible
But it's lifestyle vs. possessions. Possessions need maintenance. People are also learning that “He who dies with the most toys, wins.” isn't necessarily the best way to play the game.
More ponderings to come.....
